Guidance for Youth

Campmeeting can be a powerful time for youth to renew their surrender to Jesus. As parents, we want to do all that we can to help them stay in a spiritual atmosphere. Many families have guidelines already in place, but for those who may wish for some ideas, here is what we recommend:

  1. A boy and girl ought to avoid spending time alone. This one principle, if strictly carried out, will prove an enormous safeguard to youth.

  2. Spend time in groups. If you watch Amish young people, you will notice that the only time the boys and girls are together is during an activity. When young people are just “hanging out” together for a social time, the boys stay with boys, and girls with girls.

  3. Volunteer. Busy hands keep the devil away. Look for a place to volunteer. The kitchen can always use an extra hand. The grounds crew also would appreciate the help.

  4. Early curfew. After the games are over, let your child know that it’s time to get back to camp. This will cut out a lot of temptation for them.

  5. Regroup as a family. Make it a rule to check-in several times each day where you can regroup as a family. Mealtimes are excellent for this, and especially before bedtime.
